The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) is a new interdisciplinary institute with the mission to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change on the organism level. It has been founded by the Senckenberg Gesellschaft fuer Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, and others partners. The Centre is funded by the Federal State of Hesse through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). It provides a new, dynamic research environment that integrates a variety of disciplines from both natural and social sciences. We are looking for a scientist with a research focus at the interface of organismic evolution and climate change. The successful applicant will cooperate with various groups of biologists, palaeontologists and (palaeo)climatologists working on the relation of long-term evolution of climate and ecosystems to plant and animal evolution on the Tibetan Plateau. She or he will be in charge of a major review of literature on the topic (botany, zoology, climate, geology, palaeontology), provide support with DNA lab work and project organization, and play an active role in the acquisition of external funds. Participation in university teaching is possible.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in biology or in another relevant subject and have a solid publication record. Expertise in the following areas is expected: organismic botany or zoology, molecular systematics (incl. DNA lab work). Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and the interest in joining a multidisciplinary team are required.

Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13).

The contract shall start as soon as possible and will initially be restricted to 30.06.2011. The duty station will be Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The employer is the Senckenberg Gesellschaft fuer Naturforschung.
