[Germany] 2 PhD Positions in Mathematical Modeling in Plant Science
Posted by: In: PhD|Postgraduate|Scholarships in Europe
A Junior Research Group (funded by the Emmy Noether program of the German Science Foundation, DFG) invites applications for 2 PhD positions in mathematical modeling of transport processes in plants (m/f)
The group seeks to understand the transport of water, solutes and gases in plant tissues using a mathematical modeling approach. Although theapproach is purely theoretical, considering experimental biological information is a must to obtain physiologically relevant models.
Hence, the projects are strongly interdisciplinary and contain a tight collaboration with experimental partners. The interested applicants should hold a master or diploma degree in Physics or Mathematics (also theoretically oriented biologists). Basic knowledge in flow and transport equations (and their numerics) will be necessary, as well as basic programming skills.
The position is available immediately. Funding is for 36 months and the salary will be according to the appropriate civil service level BAT IIa/E13 (65%).
The place of work is the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
Interested applicants should submit preferentially by email (PDF-files) or mail (hard-copy) a CV, a short description of the diploma/masters project and scientific interests, certificates of academic qualification and two letters of recommendation.
Application Deadline : 15 September 2010
