[Denmark] PhD Scholarship in Robot-friendly Gene Deletion Method for Filamentous Fungi

Posted by: In: PhD|Postgraduate|Scholarships in Europe

A 3-year PhD scholarship is available at Center for Microbial Biotechnology.

Center for Microbial Biotechnology (CMB) is an international research centre. CMB is a part of the Department for Systems Biology, and collaborates with a number of research institutions both in Denmark and abroad. The mission of CMB is ‘Through cutting-edge research in industrial biotechnology to provide world-leading education and training of graduates at all levels, and provide new technologies and solutions required for the advancement of industrial biotechnology.

The overall goal of the project is to develop a robotized high throughput gene manipulation system for filamentous fungi. The methods will be used to understand basic aspects of fungal physiology. Specific focus areas will be clarification of biochemical pathways of secondary metabolites, regulation of genes involved in secondary metabolite production and to provide insights into the mechanism of enzymes involved in these processes. Aspergillus nidulans will serve as the model organism, but an important part of the project is to transfer technologies to medically and industrially relevant aspergilli as they develop.

Project start date: 15 August 2010.
