[Denmark] Phd fellowship in Prediction of Noise Transmission in Lightweight Building Structures

Posted by: In: PhD|Postgraduate|Scholarships in Europe

At Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine, Department of Civil Engineering a position as Ph.D. fellow (position no. 562/06-6-10039) is open for appointment from 1.7.2010.

Job description:
Prediction of Noise Transmission in Lightweight Building Structures

The PhD stipend is available within the general study programe “Civil Engineering”.

Noise annoyance in dwellings and office buildings is an important problem. The noise transmission between adjacent rooms in a building occurs directly through separating structures as well as over different paths that include flanking building elements. The standard EN 12354 describing a simplified statistical energy analysis (SEA) subsystem approach provides a valuable tool to predict the flanking transmission of air-borne and structure borne sound already in the stage of design. The losses that occur at the junctions, where different building elements are interconnected, play a key role in the EN 12354 standard, since they dominate the sound insulation of flanking paths. However lightweight building structures typically do not meet the requirements for ideal SEA subsystems and therefore applying the EN12354 standard to lightweight building structures may result in imprecise predictions. The objective of the present research project is to obtain a better knowledge of noise transmission for junctions of lightweight building elements and derive more precise prediction models, either as an extension of the SEA approach or based on finite element analysis (FEA). Applicants with theoretical as well as practical experience will be preferred.

Qualification requirements:
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 18 of January 14, 2008 on the PhD Programme at the Universities. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

Appointment and salary acc. to the Ministry of Finance Circular of January 11, 2006 on the Collective Agreement for Academics in Denmark, Appendix 5, regarding PhD fellows, and with the Ministry of Finance Circular of June 13, 2007 on the employment structure at Danish Universities.

Hello sir/madam;
Peace be unto you all! am Adebo Thomas, a 23yr old ugandan student. i finished my High level school with very good results and enrolled for bachelor of science education in a unversity here in my country offering physics and computer studies and hoping to complete early next year.however my main dream is to pursue a course in Information Technology or a computer science since i atleast have a prior knowledge in computer, to enhance my knowledge in the rapidly changing technology in the world, so as to help serve people. Being an orphan survived by a poor peasant mother in her late 50yrs, i cant manage paying for the tuition of such a course, thus am seeking for any scholarship aid from your institution to help me realise ma dream. i shall be so much grateful for any assistance towards my academic endeavours.
Thanks
