<p><strong>Eligibility</strong>:<br />
Applicants must have the following qualifications:<br />
1. A Malaysian citizen.<br />
2. Doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application.<br />
3. Minimum five years working experience in the relevant field.<br />
4. Faculty member in a university or a higher learning institution in Malaysia and  eligible for sabbatical or other leaves.<br />
5. An excellent record of achievement as indicated by quality publications and professional activities.<br />
6. Proficiency in English appropriate to proposed lecturing or research project to be carried out in the United States;<br />
7. A detailed statement of proposed activity for research or lecturing at a U.S. institution. The proposed project should contribute to the development of knowledge in your field and must be effectively investigated within the period of grant.</p>

The main objective of the project is to elucidate the mechanism(s) for diffusion of framework cations in zeotype materials.The successful candidate will perform modelling studies of the relative stability of different silicon distributions and mechanisms for silicon diffusion in SAPO materials and aluminium diffusion in zeolites using methods based on quantum mechanics. Periodic DFT calculations will be the main tool; however, DFT and ab initio cluster calculations may also prove useful.</p>

<p><strong>Eligibility</strong>:<br />
Applicants must hold a PhD in quantum chemistry or computational solid-state physics, preferably involving periodic band structure calculations.<br />
-A strong ability to work independently is appreciated, as well as the ability to view the computational work in a wider context, relating it to experimental results.<br />
-Experience in installing and tuning software for efficiency on high performance computing resources would be an advantage.<br />
-A good working knowledge of the English language is necessary.</p>

<p>Applications are assessed on academic  merit and research potential. In addition to the IPRS, the University of  Sydney awards an International Postgraduate Award (IPA) to IPRS  holders. The IPA provides a stipend/living allowance to all IPRS  recipients.</p>
<p><span id="more-2874"></span></p>
<p>The IPRS is available to students commencing in both  the March and July Semesters. Students must indicate that they would  like to be considered for the IPRS by completing the relevant section of  the <a href="http://sydney.edu.au/internationaloffice/forms/pgformresearch.pdf">Postgraduate Research Application form</a> (271kb pdf). To be considered for the award, applications <strong>MUST</strong> be received by the International Student Office by:</p>
<p>- 31 July of the previous year for Semester 1 (March) commencement<br />
- 31 December of the previous year for Semester 2 (July) commencement</p>
<p>To be eligible for the IPRS, you must:</p>
<ul>
<li>Be an international student commencing full time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at this University.<br />
If  you commenced your HDR in the previous year, but due to the timing of  your application and subsequent enrolment were unable to be considered  for an IPRS, you may apply and be considered for an IPRS during the  current round of IPRS application.<br />
Students in this situation should complete the <a href="http://www.scholarships-links.com/viewdetail/documents/future_students/IPRS_special_form.pdf">IPRS Special Application Form</a> (112kb pdf). This form <strong>MUST</strong> be received at the International Student Office by 31 August of the current year.</li>
<li>Be  a student undertaking study in a subject area identified by the  University as within the areas of its current and emerging research  strengths.</li>
<li>Not hold a  research qualification regarded to be equivalent to an Australian  Research Doctorate degree, or, if undertaking a Research Master&#8217;s  degree, not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to  or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.</li>
<li>Not have held an AusAID scholarship within two years prior to commencing the IPRS.</li>
<li>Not  be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component  under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government  makes a substantial contribution.</li>
<li>Not  previously have received an IPRS, unless the previous IPRS was for a  Master by Research degree that you have completed and you are now  applying for a doctorate research degree.</li>
</ul>
<p>The University awards approximately 30 IPRS awards each year. Successful candidates will be notifed in:</p>
<p>– late October/early November for Semester 1 (March) commencement<br />
– April for Semester 2 (July) commencement</p>
<p>Note that only successful applicants will be notified.</p>
<p>In addition to the IPRS awards, commencing students may also be considered for the <a href="http://www.scholarships-links.com/viewdetail/1655/International-Postgraduate-Research-Scholarship.html#usi">U</a>niversity of Sydney International Scholarship (USydIS).  The USydIS is open to all research disciplines, however participation  in the USydIS program each semester is at the discretion of the Dean of  each Faculty. No application form for the USydIS is required and  eligible applicants will be considered during the IPRS selection process  in October/November for scholarships to commence in Semester 1 (March),  and in early April for scholarships to commence in Semester 2 (July).</p>
<p>The USydIS will cover tuition fees and a living allowance similar to the IPRS.</p>

<strong>Scholarship Description:</strong>The Australia-Japan Foundation invites applications for projects in 2011-12 which support its objectives to:</p>
<ul>
<li>increase understanding in Japan of shared interests with Australia;</li>
<li>increase understanding in Australia of the importance of Japan to Australia as an economic and strategic partner; and</li>
<li>increase  recognition in Japan of Australian excellence and expertise.</li>
</ul>

<p>In  2011-12, funding priority will be given to projects and programs that  strengthen Australia’s relationship with Japan through people-to-people  engagement across a diverse range of sectors. These include projects  relating to the bilateral economic and trade relationship (particularly  the Australia-Japan Free Trade Agreement), regional and international  security issues, society and culture, education, science and technology  and to advocacy, media and communications.<br />
Individuals, organisations  or a collaboration of both may apply for AJF grant funding. Where a  conflict of interest exists, or may be perceived to exist, the AJF  Secretariat should be contacted to clarify eligibility and/or  obligations under Commonwealth conflict of interest guidelines.</p>
<p>Generally,  the AJF does not fund projects over more than two successive years. The  AJF Secretariat should be contacted to clarify eligibility if you have  previously received an AJF grant.If you have submitted an application in  a previous AJF grant funding round but have been unsuccessful, you are  encouraged to reapply for funding in future rounds.No person or  organisation may hold more than one AJF grant at any given time.Grants  will not be provided to individuals or organisations that have failed to  provide a proper acquittal of an earlier grant provided by the AJF.</p>

<p>The types of mobility  to be funded are:</p>

<li>For students: undergraduate, master, doctorate and post-doctorate mobility  opportunities</li>
<li>For academic staff: exchanges for the purposes of teaching, practical  training and research</li>

<p>This project is to give South-East Asian  students and staff the possibility to go to a European University to improve,  enrich,  learn, experience, &#8230;. their own knowledge and skills.</p>
<p>Please  bear in mind that the scholarships are only granted to South-East Asian students  and staff coming to Europe.</p>
<p>The grant covers:</p>
<ul>
<li>Monthly subsistence allowance</li>
<li>Travel ticket</li>
<li>Insurance</li>
<li>Tuition fee</li>
</ul>
<p>To enable students to benefit in a linguistic,  cultural and educational way from the experience of pursuing academic studies in  another country, all students should have a thorough command of English (this  can only be proven by means of internationally recognized documents, p.e. IELTS  certificate, TOEFL, First Certificate of Cambridge, an English diploma, a Degree  obtained in English). Please note, however, that this also depends on the  language requirements of the host universities within the Lotus project.</p>
