Application are invited from the qualified Malaysian scholars to undertake a 3-6 months of research / lecturing at the American universities during the 2012/2013 academic year (August through June).
The Malaysian Fulbright Scholar Program provides opportunities for Malaysian academics to develop or update their research through interaction with distinguished counterparts in the United States. By providing a mechanism and support for meeting and interacting with the best of American scholars, the program seeks to promote dialogue on subjects of mutual interest to Malaysia and the United States.

Eligibility:
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
1. A Malaysian citizen.
2. Doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application.
3. Minimum five years working experience in the relevant field.
4. Faculty member in a university or a higher learning institution in Malaysia and  eligible for sabbatical or other leaves.
5. An excellent record of achievement as indicated by quality publications and professional activities.
6. Proficiency in English appropriate to proposed lecturing or research project to be carried out in the United States;
7. A detailed statement of proposed activity for research or lecturing at a U.S. institution. The proposed project should contribute to the development of knowledge in your field and must be effectively investigated within the period of grant.

The position is financed by the KOSK II programme of the Norwegian research council on the project Quantum modelling studies of local coordination of T-atoms in Zeotype materials. The main objective of the project is to elucidate the mechanism(s) for diffusion of framework cations in zeotype materials.The successful candidate will perform modelling studies of the relative stability of different silicon distributions and mechanisms for silicon diffusion in SAPO materials and aluminium diffusion in zeolites using methods based on quantum mechanics. Periodic DFT calculations will be the main tool; however, DFT and ab initio cluster calculations may also prove useful.

Eligibility:
Applicants must hold a PhD in quantum chemistry or computational solid-state physics, preferably involving periodic band structure calculations.
-A strong ability to work independently is appreciated, as well as the ability to view the computational work in a wider context, relating it to experimental results.
-Experience in installing and tuning software for efficiency on high performance computing resources would be an advantage.
-A good working knowledge of the English language is necessary.

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) scheme is funded by the Australian Government and provides tuition fees to top quality international postgraduate students who wish to enrol in a research degree at Australian universities.

Applications are assessed on academic merit and research potential. In addition to the IPRS, the University of Sydney awards an International Postgraduate Award (IPA) to IPRS holders. The IPA provides a stipend/living allowance to all IPRS recipients.

The IPRS is available to students commencing in both the March and July Semesters. Students must indicate that they would like to be considered for the IPRS by completing the relevant section of the Postgraduate Research Application form (271kb pdf). To be considered for the award, applications MUST be received by the International Student Office by:

- 31 July of the previous year for Semester 1 (March) commencement
- 31 December of the previous year for Semester 2 (July) commencement

To be eligible for the IPRS, you must:

• Be an international student commencing full time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at this University.
  If you commenced your HDR in the previous year, but due to the timing of your application and subsequent enrolment were unable to be considered for an IPRS, you may apply and be considered for an IPRS during the current round of IPRS application.
  Students in this situation should complete the IPRS Special Application Form (112kb pdf). This form MUST be received at the International Student Office by 31 August of the current year.
• Be a student undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as within the areas of its current and emerging research strengths.
• Not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree, or, if undertaking a Research Master’s degree, not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.
• Not have held an AusAID scholarship within two years prior to commencing the IPRS.
• Not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution.
• Not previously have received an IPRS, unless the previous IPRS was for a Master by Research degree that you have completed and you are now applying for a doctorate research degree.

The University awards approximately 30 IPRS awards each year. Successful candidates will be notifed in:

– late October/early November for Semester 1 (March) commencement
– April for Semester 2 (July) commencement

Note that only successful applicants will be notified.

In addition to the IPRS awards, commencing students may also be considered for the University of Sydney International Scholarship (USydIS). The USydIS is open to all research disciplines, however participation in the USydIS program each semester is at the discretion of the Dean of each Faculty. No application form for the USydIS is required and eligible applicants will be considered during the IPRS selection process in October/November for scholarships to commence in Semester 1 (March), and in early April for scholarships to commence in Semester 2 (July).

The USydIS will cover tuition fees and a living allowance similar to the IPRS.

Australia-China Council (ACC) grantsare intended to provide seed funds for innovative proposals relevant to the mission and goals of the Council. This includes proposals which demonstrate the potential for the development of long-term links between individuals and institutions in Australia and counterparts throughout China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

In any financial year the Council will look to fund a diverse range of activities that further the Council’s goals and are preferably under the Council’s funding priority areas, both in Australia and China, including projects which have a reach outside the major cities. The Council’s funding priority areas are outlined in the 2008-2011 Strategic Plan and includes support for projects under the broad themes of education and science, economics and trade, and culture and society.

Lotus is an Erasmus Mundus Action Two Partnership (EMA2) of European and South-East Asian Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and Associations aiming at fostering mutual enrichment and better understanding between the EU and South-East Asia (China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand), through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills at higher education level and to co-operate in the following program activities:

The types of mobility to be funded are:
