Job description
With reference to the project manager, the work of the PhD student will consist chiefly of duties in connection with research & development within the area of engineering of plant biosynthetic pathways of bioactive parts in microorganisms. This project will place particular emphasis on, but is not limited to natural products like glucosinolates. The project will include transport engineering to be sure proper compartmentalization.

The fruit processing industry is experiencing a surge in its growth with Quebec ranked tenth in North The united states. The growth has generated immense quantities of “fruit pomace” as solid waste (25–30% of the total processed fruits) obtained after the extraction of fruit juice. The aim is to carryover out value-addition of pomace to produce ligninolytic enzymes; extract polyphenols; & use the fermented mass as animal feed by using a white rot fungus, Phanerochaete chrysosporium.

The Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine, Divisions of Dermatology and Venerology has an opening for a PhD student position within a multidisciplinary project involving statisticians as well as medical and economic scientists. The project, Psoriasis in Sweden – a health economic analysis, makes use of register data to look at the common skin disease psoriasis within a health economic and epidemiological context. The PhD candidate is expected to collaborate with the members of the respective teams while developing relevant statistical methods. For instance, the project will look on health economic outcomes related to different psoriasis treatments. Moreover, the PhD student will also work at developing novel methods to analyze registry data. This project is part of the Umeå University Industrial Graduate School and special courses are included.
